Tuesday, December 22—A 2020 Winter Devotional

“The Lord has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; the Lord has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty.” Luke 1:52–3

“Waiting is not a very popular attitude…waiting is even more difficult because we are so fearful. Waiting, as we see it in the people on the first pages of the Gospel of Luke, is waiting with a sense of promise. People who wait have received a promise that allows them to wait. They have received something that is at work within them, like a seed that has started to grow. We can only really wait if what we are waiting for has already begun within us.” Henri Nouwen

Form us, O God, according to your wisdom, not ours. Amen.
