Sunday, November 15—A 2020 Winter Devotional

This winter devotional “The Weary World Rejoices” will take us from now until the end of the year. It has been a weary year, and we long for the spirit of God. We will begin with a season of gratitude, move into the perennial Advent theme of “waiting” and explore themes of light, mystery, hope, and our tangible spiritual life along the way.

“O give thanks to the Lord, call upon the Holy One’s name.” 1 Chronicles 16:8

“Augustine’s profound account of the ontological significance of birth and our inability to remember our beginning means that as created beings we necessarily live out a story we have not chosen. To come to terms with our beginning requires a truthful story to acquire the skills to live in gratitude rather than resentment for the gift of life.” Stanley Hauerwas

God, for heartbeat and breath—the most simple, the most intimate, the most ordinary—we give you thanks. Amen.
