Service Opportunity Details: Volunteers needed to help host Host homeless families at one of the north shore congregations. This is perfect for families with children at home. It also works very well with couples (friends or sharing the same house). This includes welcoming the guests as they arrive for their evening. Providing dinner and sharing with the guests. If you have children they can play with or read to the guest children after dinner. It is a wonderful experience. Doing God’s work no more than 20 minutes from home. Sarah’s Circle

Types of Help Needed: Food preparation and distribution

Service Opportunity Details: This volunteer position is responsible for supporting Sarah’s Circle staff members during meal service in the Daytime Support Center or Interim Housing programs. The kitchen support volunteers should be willing to complete a variety of tasks to assist staff in preparing, serving, and cleaning up the meal. Kitchen support volunteers help expand the resources and services available to the women we serve beyond the limits of the budget. Volunteers also gain a deeper knowledge of the work of the organization and the women served, often becoming our best advocates in the community.

Location: Chicago-North Side

Frequency: On-going

Frequency Details: For 2 hours, weekly. Daytime Center volunteers needed Monday through Friday during business hours. Interim Housing volunteers needed during business hours, evenings, and weekends. Minimum 3 months required.

Sarah’s Circle

Types of Help Needed: Food preparation and distribution

Service Opportunity Details: Provide a meal for 50 program participants. Meals can consist of a main dish, vegetable side/side salad, bread/rice, and dessert for lunch or dinner. Sarah’s Circle does not adhere to any dietary restrictions, but we ask you to please make staff aware if your dishes include nuts, shellfish, or other common allergens. If needed,Sarah’s Circle’s kitchen can be used for preparation, but volunteers may need to supply their own equipment in some cases. Volunteers must provide all ingredients needed for the meal preparation. Please discuss your meal plans with the Volunteer Coordinator prior to serving to ensure you will have the necessary materials. Serving materials, such as plates, napkins, and utensils will be provided by Sarah’s Circle.

Service Opportunity Details: Provide, cook and serve meals at agency’s homeless centers . After serving the meals, volunteers eat with guests and build relationships over a meal.

Types of Help Needed: Food Preparation and Distribution

Service Opportunity Details: A group or family prepares a meal for a dinner for St. Leonard’s House (20-30 people) or Grace House (10-15people), serves it to the residents, visits with them during the meal, and cleans up. This is a wonderful opportunity to sit and share a meal with someone who might at first seem very different than you. It is a chance to see how much you actually have in common.

Location: Chicago-Near West Side

Frequency: One-time

Frequency Details: The evening would need to be mutually agreed on by St. Leonard’s and the volunteer group, ideally at 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday or Sunday. Holiday luncheons are also welcome (New Year’s, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, 4th of July, etc.)

Service Opportunity Details: Provide bagged lunches for 50 women. Sarah’s Circle only accepts 50 or more sack lunches. These should consist of a variety of meat sandwiches and at least 5 vegetarian sandwiches, healthy snack, optional fruit, and optional healthy beverage. Each pre-bagged lunch can have a different item, we just ask that each includes a balanced meal. Please scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance with the volunteer coordinator.

The Night Ministry

Service Opportunity Details: Volunteers with a group or a few people prepare, donate, and serve meals to Night Ministry clients in conjunction with one of its regular programs.

Service Opportunity Details: Feed our Youth Program provides meals prepared by volunteers, either on or offsite, to feed the youth that access our shelters and drop-in centers. We are seeking a weekly, biweekly, or monthly group who would cook a meal which would feed 20 youth. Option to serve the meal is potentially available.

Location: Chicago-Humboldt Park and Back of the Yards

Frequency: On-going

Frequency Details: Time frames available are: M-F 11 a.m. with lunch served at noon; M-F 4 p.m. with dinner served at 5 p.m.; or 7 days a week at 7 p.m. with dinner served at 9 p.m.
