Nativity as Prayer: A Christmas Devotional

Written by: Julia Smolucha

The Reverend Dr. Katie Snipes Lancaster

As we stumble toward another pandemic-infused Christmas season, I’ve been wondering what it would be like to approach the Christmas story as prayer. Can this wildly textured story of unexpected parenthood, duty-bound road trips home, political census-taking, and overbooked hotels help us to bring our twenty first century lives to God? Can the metaphors of light and star show us the way to live this life? Our life? Can the angels, shepherds, magi speak God-with-us into this season? Can the songs, dreams and visits give us insight into our own divine longings? I hope so.

For the month of December, our daily devotional will center these nativity narratives, first from the ethereal beginnings of the Gospel of John, then from Matthew and Luke. I am grateful for another chance to accompany you on the way of faith and prayer.

If your new to devotionals and would like a Monday through Friday morning devotional from Katie please register here.
