In preparation for our journey to Nazareth, we read Luke 4:16–30, hearing both Jesus’ inaugural sermon according to St. Luke as well as the crowd’s response to throw him off a cliff. While we were walking the steep roads and learning the common sentence for why a blasphemer was to be thrown off a cliff twice a man’s height, we had a visceral experience of this story.
We also visited a church and basilica celebrating Mary’s annunciation and another in Joseph’s honor while winding through markets with every possible item for sale from dates to ball gowns.
We are grateful for the generous hospitality of a scooter driver who escorted our bus driver on the no-named streets in this bustling, Arab city.
