IMPACT is a program of Kenilworth Union Church Youth Ministries. It is an experiential program for high school students, regardless of church affiliation, that challenges participants to live and grow in Christian faith and love for the world.

Colombia suffered from 50 years of civil war, the “Colombian Conflict,” which pitted guerrilla armies and criminal syndicates against each other and against the Colombian government. Through a long and persistent peace process, including unconventional ideas and efforts, the conflict was brought to an end and peace has returned to Colombia.

Decades of war broke up communities, destroyed families, and sent waves of refugees toward the cities to find safety and security. Bogotá now is home to huge swaths of poverty where help and hope is needed now more than ever.

For the IMPACT Colombia 2019 mission trip program, we will partner with Praying Pelican Missions, with whom we have worked before and who have partnerships with several churches in Bogotá.

Praying Pelican’s model is to partner with local churches to build up their ministry and serve their immediate needs with visiting teams. Needs often include support for construction and outreach ministries, homeless ministries, children’s and youth ministries. The exact nature of our work in Colombia will be finalized with the partner churches during our site visit at the end of February. This is a custom trip and they are working closely with us on every detail.

As with all Kenilworth Union Church mission trips, safety and security are paramount. Bogotá is a large city with many kinds of neighborhoods—just like Chicago.  Our team will be housed in secure lodging, travel in private vehicles provided by Praying Pelican, and be accompanied by knowledgeable local staff on all our work and ministry projects.

Program Scope

The program begins in January and culminates in two weeks of mission trips in June 2019.

The program fee covers all program costs plus the costs for the mission trip to Bogotá, Colombia, including transportation, lodging, food, supervision, translators, activities, and medical evacuation insurance. The program fee does not cover the expenses associated with on-site construction or mission projects. Participants are expected to raise additional funds for the work we do on mission.

Program Commitments and Requirements

The IMPACT mission trip program requires participants to commit to meeting attendance, fund raising, and ten or more hours of volunteer service before embarking on the international mission trip. Three of the ten hours must be completed before the registration is accepted.


Applicants are making a commitment to attend IMPACT meetings as scheduled. (Schedule subject to adjustment.) Regular meetings are held at Kenilworth Union Church:

High School and College participants are accountable to Kenilworth Union Church for their online and in-person behavior. They are required, as a condition of the program, to connect social media accounts to KUC youth staff accounts. Any behavior that Kenilworth Union or its mission partners may deem incompatible with ministry principles or objectives may result in removal from the program. Refund of program fees for anyone removed will adhere to the program refund policy below.

Week preference

Youth registering for one week may mark a preferred week, but placement in the preferred week is not guaranteed. Weeks are assigned in early February. After weeks are assigned, only those who can demonstrate bona fide conflicts or hardship will be considered for placement in the other week.

Program fee covers all program expenses and all personal costs associated with the mission trip, including flights, evacuation insurance, ground transportation, team supervision, lodging, food, and free-time activities. Additional funds will need to be raised to support the ministry work we do in Colombia.

Refund Policy

Withdrawal from the program before February 1, 2019 will receive a full refund.
Withdrawal February 1–April 15 will receive a refund minus $150 administration fee.
Withdrawal after April 15. No Refund +++

​+++ You may choose to insure the non-refundable portion of trip fees paid with “cancel-for-any-reason” travel insurance, which you can purchase independently online–note: most travel insurance must be purchased within 15 days of paying deposit. Please understand your policy thoroughly to make certain it covers cancellation.
