By The Reverend Dr. Katie Snipes Lancaster

So many birds hold places of honor when it comes to our understanding of God. The dove signals peace and holds God’s promises for us. The mother hen reminds us that God shelters us under holy wing. The wild goose, in Celtic spirituality, is a symbol of the holy spirit: untamable and moving in ways unexpected. And here, this simple rhyming prayer reminds us of God’s tenderness as seen in the mother eagle.

What other birds connect you to the presence of God?

Let us pray:

The care the eagle gives her young,
Safe in her lofty nest,
Is like the tender love of God
For us made manifest.
