Our bodies are a portable sanctuary, a holy of holies, a place in which we can know and meet and be in the presence beyond God who is beyond all knowing and yet who seeks to know us.
Try a meditation exercise called “palms up, palms down.” With palms down, let go of all that is stressful, all that brings about worry, all that must be said about the everyday mess of reality and chaos we experience. Dump all that needs to be said into the hands of God. Let the downward posture of your hands mimic the reality of gravity, such that all that you name before God can fall out of your hands and into God’s.
Then, with hands up, ask God to receive all that God has given you. Maybe use the scripture passage below as a prayerful reminder of what God offers us: peace. Maybe it is that sense of renewal that comes from letting go. Maybe it is truth of God’s forgiveness entering at exactly the right moment. Spend time there. Receive what God has to offer you. Let your body be that portable sanctuary, holy of holies, welcome way to encounter God wherever you are.
Let us pray:
My peace I give to you.
