The Magnificent Defeat

4/15 at 7:00 pm 8:30 pm

Dear Believers and Skeptics,

Thank you to the 10 of you who gathered March 4 to complete our study of The Case for God. No matter what you think of the books we read, I experience a satisfying sense of accomplishment every time we finish one. I am grateful to you all for your assistance and wisdom in tackling this book.

Having completed our third straight fairly dense volume, we agreed by consensus to read a more spiritual and accessible book. Somebody in the group suggested we read some sermons. You know that one of my favorite preachers is Frederick Buechner, so we will read the Reverend Buechner’s collection of sermons called The Magnificent Defeat.  You can get it in paperback or hardcover, including some very reasonable used copies.

We will gather in the Culbertson Room on the 3rd Monday of April. Please let Sandy Wells know if you’re planning to attend.

The book is 144 pages long, so I think I will allocate just the one session to it. If we find that there’s more in it to attend to, we can add sessions in May and June.

Thanks again,

Bill Evertsberg
