Mark “Chaps” Schimmelpfennig, Staff Chaplain and Faculty Member at Rush University Medical Center
Provides spiritual care and support to the Vets and Families who come to the center who are dealing with PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Military Sexual Trauma. Specializing in helping Vets deal with issues of Moral Injury and helping them heal from within. In addition Mark is a combat veteran, and uses his PTSD experience and expertise to help health care workers at Rush recover from the pandemic.
Mark received his Masters of Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, in 2009. He has been at the Road Home Program at Rush for almost two years, and before that completed Chaplaincy programs at both Rush University and Northwestern hospitals.
Mark is a veteran of the U.S. Army.
