Scripture
Though the mountains be shaken
    and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you.  —Isaiah 54:10

Wisdom
Advent is a time of expectation, of waiting for the coming of Jesus. We live in a time of uncertainty, where we are not sure of…well, anything. We want God to cut through the haze and make God’s self known. During Advent, the cry of Isaiah should be our cry: God, come and shape us, shape our community. Like Jerusalem, our world is a mess. Things are not well. We wait for God to come and shake things up and change us for the better. We hope for the one who makes mountains quake and nations shake in fear—that this God will come and form us as disciples and bearers of good news. —Dennis Sanders, Christian Century, December 1, 2017, What do we expect?

Prayer
Shape us God, with your compassion, with your unfailing love, with your unshakable peace. Amen. —The Reverend Dr. Katie Snipes Lancaster
