During the harvest season we thank God for gifts of sunlight, rain, soil, plants, and air which sustain life. Cultivating a heart of gratitude begins with paying attention to the simple things we often overlook.

Our family has been filling my grandmother’s old recipe box with words of thanks written on slips of paper for 15 years. Being able to look back at what my children wrote at ages 5, 10, and 15 is a gift. Other families write their thanks on pumpkins to create a centerpiece for Thanksgiving.  Author Traci Smith has a printable calendar of gratitude prompts. Whatever method we use, the act of recording our gratitude reminds us of God’s abundant goodness and mercy.
