Zion National Park: The Organ, The Great White Throne, and Angels Landing

Bill and Kathy Evertsberg’s Sabbatical April 30, 2022

Hi Kenilworth Union Church, it’s Bill Evertsberg. It’s Saturday, April 30. I think it’s day 13 of my sabbatical.

We’re at Zion National Park. Mormons settled this place so they called this canyon Zion, which means sanctuary. The Hebrew Bible reference to the city of Jerusalem.

A lot of the formations they named after biblical things. Like there’s one up there called A pulpit on the Altar. And this one right here is called The Organ. The white one right there is called The Great White Throne. And the bigger, longer one is called Angels Landing.

So this is a tribute to our musicians at Kenilworth Union Church. Lisa and you and the singers who are putting on Schubert’s Mass tomorrow, I think tomorrow, maybe next week. It’s coming up soon and I’m going to miss it. I’m sorry I’m going to miss it.

So The Organ and Angels Landing makes me think of how Shakespeare has Lorenzo say that to Jesica, he says “How sweet the moonlight sleeps upon this bank! Here will we sit and let the sounds of music creep in our ears. Look how the floor of heaven is thick inlaid with patens of bright gold. Here’s not the smallest orb which in his motion like an angel sings.

Hope you can hear the music of the mountains. The Angel Landing there and The Organ playing. See you in a couple weeks.
