TJ’s “A Just Harvest” Eagle Scout Project

TJ Eagle Scout

TJ Nahrwold has passed the board of review for his Eagle Scout Award which demonstrates he has planned, developed, and lead a significant community service project with his leadership and commitment!

Tom and Katie Nahrwold’s son TJ is a Life Scout in Kenilworth Troop 13 who has completed his Eagle project, and the final review board has awarded him Eagle Scout status. His project was with A Just Harvest, a Kenilworth Union Church Outreach Agency. Read more about TJ’s project below (in his own words).

I supported A Just Harvest in Rogers Park by making improvements to their two gardens: Anthony’s Garden and Hoophouse Garden. Through donations I raised $3,720 for the project.

Anthony’s garden is on the east side of Gale Academy of Math and Science. I took out old, rusted, and bent raised plant beds in Anthony’s Garden and replace them with 17 new beds. The raised beds will support educational, hands-on programming with K–8th grade students connecting them with nature, food, and the world of plants. Harvest will also be sold at their farm stand and shared with the community kitchen.

I also did a project at the Hoophouse Garden which is located just south of the Community Kitchen. In the Hoophouse, I installed an irrigation and timing system. The hoophouse is like a greenhouse and can be used during almost all growing seasons. The irrigation and timing system will support the A Just Harvest team as they grow and harvest plants for the community and the kitchen.

With additional funds raised I was able to make a direct donation to A Just Harvest.
