Over forty years ago, two Kenilworth Union Church members, Becky Jones and Betsy Fyfe, came together to create the Day by Day calendar. Their hope was to raise funds for outreach in a way that would spread joy and inspiration to our congregation, and beyond, for years to come. Since then, we have sold tens of thousands of the beloved quote-of-the-day calendars to devoted fans throughout the U.S. and abroad. We sold over 4,600 calendars last year, netting about $40,000 for the church outreach agencies!
Each spring committee members thoughtfully review potential quotes from our archives of more than 10,000 cards. Quotes are only considered for inclusion once every 10 years. We also incorporate new quote submissions each year, which have been carefully vetted and verified.
In the fall the calendars are printed and we hold a “Ringing Day,” where church members assist us in putting rings in the printed calendars, so they can be displayed on stands (which the committee also sells) or displayed however you like in your home.
Years ago, due to the popularity of the calendars, the committee began offering mail order services for those who perhaps had moved away and couldn’t get to the church to purchase their calendars, or those who simply found it easier. Currently the majority of the calendars are sold that way. After the October 31 quote in each calendar is a mail order form that lists the current prices for calendars, and stands that year. (Mailed calendars and stands are of course more expensive due to shipping costs.) In November, committee members start fulfilling mail-in orders for calendars.
Calendars may also be purchased at the front desk of the church Monday through Friday, during business hours 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., we typically sell calendars and stands in the Culbertson Room, on certain Sundays in December.
The calendars make great stocking stuffers, or holiday, or hostess gifts! We think you’ll find there are thoughts in each calendar that family members across generations can enjoy, and it can be nice to know that you are looking at the same quote every morning as loved ones who you may not get to see often.
