The Great Prayer of Thanksgiving November 21, 2021

We praise you, O God,
our lives distilled to heartbeat and breath,
our being inhabiting no moment but this one, our every longing burning brightly within.

The safe comfort of this sanctuary allows us to draw near to you in a new way, a tenderness of heart sensing you within and between us.
We had over the worries of our lives:

The new diagnosis, Lord bless us.

The old disagreement, Lord bless the space between us.

The shallow desires, Lord challenge us.

The deep frustration, Lord calm us.

The grief that wells up without notice, Lord comfort us.

The homesickness for another era, another moment in time, Lord console us.

Lord, your presence does not make the worries disappear, but your nearness offers enough relief that we can look up and see the horizon in a new way.

We need you as we forge a path ahead.

We need you as we make our way through November to December, through 2021 to 2022, from this moment to the next.

So, let us know you here at your table, O Christ.

We know your presence here, where the fabric of our experience melts before your steadfast love.

We remember the long story of your devotion to us, in the life of Jesus you heal, teach, challenge, comfort, welcome, save, and form a community of promise: wherever two or three are gathered, there you are O Christ.

So, disciple us, O God.

Make your calling on our lives palpable.

Make the gift of sacrament thick with your presence.

Great is the mystery of faith.
Christ has died,
Christ is risen,
Christ will come again.

Gracious God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts of bread and wine, that the bread we break and the cup we bless may be the body and blood of Christ.

By your Spirit unite us with the living Christ and with all who are baptized in his name, that we may be one in ministry in every place.

As this bread is Christ’s body for us, send us out to be the body of Christ in the world.

And hear us as we are bold to pray the prayer Jesus teaches us: Our Father…
