The Reverend Dr. William A. Evertsberg
Holy God, Our loving Creator, close to us as breathing, and distant as the farthest star,
We thank you for your constant love for all you have made.
We thank you for all that sustains life,
For all people of faith in every generation who have given themselves to your will, and
Especially for Jesus Christ, whom you have sent from your own being as our Savior.
We praise you for Christ’s birth, life, death, and resurrection,
And for the calling forth of your church for its mission in the world.
Help us to be kind and caring neighbors to our friends who need your tender grace.
We pray for our friends who suffer from ill health: heal their diseases.
We pray for any here who are anxious over broken relationships; offer up your reconciliation.
We pray for those who ache from guilt over past error: forgive their mistakes.
We pray for those whose lives are hobbled by the darkness of depression; bring your light to their lives.
We pray for those who feel imprisoned by addiction; break those chains with your strong and beautiful freedom.
We give thanks for the lives and witness of Bob Hoagland and Leo Harootyan, and we pray that you will bring resurrection hope to their families and friends. Receive them into the arms of your mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light.
Gracious God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these your gifts of bread and wine.
Make them be for us the body and blood of Christthat we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by his blood.
Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor are yours, Almighty God, forever and ever. Amen.
