Sixth Badge: St. Catherine, Sinai
Dear Pilgrim,
As pilgrims made their way through the land, they often recorded their progress and memorialized their experience by collecting badges or markers. These would be presented at the final destination as evidence of their journey for a final token or certificate of completion. Along our Pilgrimage to Pentecost, we will recognize our progress with many of the christian pilgrim trails walked through history and today.
Early in the 4th Century CE, Byzantine Christians began to travel to the holy sites of the Old Testament, launching tradition to climb Mount Sinai. At this peak Moses received the Ten Commandments from God, standing before a burning bush, on holy ground. St. Catherine is credited for founding the monastery and church which bear her name. In the coming week, consider the ground upon which you walk and how you encounter God.
We hope you find the scripture video recording as nourishing as it is intended. We also offer this prayer for you to reflect upon as you navigate this day of your journey.
