Second Badge: Via Francigena
As pilgrims made their way through the land, they often recorded their progress and memorialized their experience by collecting badges or markers. These would be presented at the final destination as evidence of their journey for a final token or certificate of completion. Along our Pilgrimage to Pentecost, we will recognize our progress with many of the christian pilgrim trails walked through history and today.
The second badge for those pilgrims who continue to read and pray of Jesus’ ministry is from the Via Francigena, an ancient trail that stretches from Canterbury to Rome. Consider how the Christian story was anchored by those two locations and spread throughout the Holy Roman Empire. Consider in your journey how modernization, time, and civilization pushed against faith and the church and faith and the church pushed back.
