October 23—Gratitude Daily Devotional

Birds of Heaven

John Hales

I am grateful to be surrounded by the Creative Mother Spirit’s works of nature. This time of self-lockdown found me spending many hours on our backyard deck in the company of squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, and especially birds. This unanticipated gift led to feelings of gratitude for the abundance of living things that surround us and go unnoticed yet have the power to restore our balance.

Deck time provided the opportunity for reflection on that which is important in one’s life. I pray that my Kenilworth Union family members also had time for such reflection. It refreshes the soul. The sound of falling water from our fountain lends to the feeling of communion with Jesus, memories of his time among us, and on into worship of the spirit of God within us.

Let Us Pray:

In this time of human stress both
individually and collectively, it is my will that, the

Glorious Father and Mother, in one
parent combined,

Thank you for the gift of life and
bread to sustain it.

Refresh our souls with the water
of life.

And forgive us every one our debts

As we also have forgiven our
debtors.

Save us in temptation, deliver us
from evil,

And increasingly make us perfect
like yourself.

So be it.
Amen.

Perhaps you can list 2–3 things, people, or aspects
of your life for which you are thankful today.

Be a writer for gratitude: Kenilworth Union Church invites you to become part of a gratitude journey, diverse members within the church will author these devotions. Find out more here.
