Meet me in heaven.

By The Reverend Dr. Jo Forrest

“Meet me in heaven” is not an invitation for some moment in the afterlife, but for a date right here and now.  When we join together with the words “Dear God,” we open ourselves beyond the common life to say something to God and, hopefully, to be open to what God has to say to us.  We are meeting in heaven.

When our words are not sufficient, often we borrow those petitions written by others that resonate inside us or we just sigh and hold a silence with one another. Praying with more frequency increases our comfort to be with God and enjoy a taste of heaven.

In the fall of 2016, our faith community made a commitment to pray for each member by name.  We are not only continuing but invite you to meet us in heaven as we expand the ways we pray together.

Here is the plan with the new initiatives listed first

  • We are printing the names in our Sunday bulletin of members who are included in the Mid-Day Prayer Service and invite you to pray for your fellow members.
  • We are posting the Mid-Day Prayer Service bulletin online on Monday, so you may join us in spirit even if you cannot attend in person. Each week presents a new liturgy, praying through scripture with brief reflections.
  • Sign up for the prayer text message. Each Tuesday you will receive a text message of one line of prayer.  It is a simple reminder to connect with God.
  • On the first Tuesday of the month, we will add an “express” communion to the Mid-Day Prayer Service. This sacred meal still honors your time constraints to be present with us and nourish you for the rest of your day.
  • Send us your prayer requests to any minister or to
  • The Mid-Day Prayer Services continue at 12:15 p.m. each Tuesday when we pray for members by name on their appointed day. You will receive a letter from the ministerial staff about a week before your appointed date. Those enduring illness, grief or who have joys to share are also included in prayer.  All are welcome.
