Making the Vision Come Alive

The Reverend Christine V. Hides

On Sunday, fourth graders spoke with Ruth Goring, the author of Picturing God, and continued creating their collages. Fifth and sixth graders continued to bring the “The World Jesus Knew” to life for the younger kids. Third graders began learning the Books of the Bible song by Bill Lacey. Younger children used hands-on materials to learn the parables of the Good Samaritan and the Great Pearl. Some were able to show their understanding of a parable by retelling it to another child. What do all of these experiences have in common? They are intentionally interactive, engaging, multi-sensory, and Spirit-filled. A few years ago, Children and Family Ministry adopted seven guiding principles to nurture children on their faith journey. These principles are rooted in what we believe at Kenilworth Union: that through the person of Jesus we know what God is like and who we are to be like. These principles have guided us during  every pandemic pivot. We are thankful to God for making the vision of vibrant ministry come alive through our Sunday school children!
