At school, third graders are building important reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills, as well as multiplication, division, and fractions. Physiological and neurological changes in most third graders bring about an increase in physical stamina, attention, and memory. Because of this they are also ready for the Third Grade Bible milestone year. It honors the gifts and skills of our third graders, welcomes them into a tradition that goes back generations (maybe some of this year’s third grade parents also learned scripture by heart when they were in third grade?), and gives them a unique way to connect with scripture the rest of their lives. Third graders are developing an ever-increasing sense of independence and responsibility, and welcome the challenge of this year. However as with all things they will need your support as a parent: practice with them, pray for them, pray with them. We will too.
