Just in time for May Day, the Green Team is pleased to announce that beginning this spring, our landscaper Rosborough Partners, will be using all-electric equipment on church grounds all year—and at no extra cost. This will include not only leaf blowers (gas-powered blowers are already banned during the summer months in Kenilworth as well as Wilmette, Winnetka, and Glencoe) but also mowers and trimmers.
Using all-electric equipment year round for our landscaping is an important step forward in being good stewards of God’s creation. Green Team member, Anne Wortel, shares her thoughts on the importance on using electric landscaping equipment for her own home:
When we moved from Chicago in 2019, we needed our first lawnmower. I didn’t give it a second thought; I was definitely going to go electric even though some tried to talk me out of it. There are so many benefits besides the obvious of being “green”—it’s much quieter (everyone who walks by comments about that), you don’t have to deal with buying, handling, and storing gas, and it’s very light and easy to move around. Since then we have purchased a leaf blower, edger, and snow blower—all using the same rechargeable batteries. I don’t see any downsides to these electric products, and there are many things I don’t like about gas-powered tools.
