The Kenilworth Union Church Green Team began working with A Just Harvest’s (AJH) urban agriculture program in July 2021. Since then, we have made great progress working side by side with the AJH team and our Kenilworth Union members. When we first arrived this summer, we began clearing the parking lot of weeds and trash near their hoop house. Now that space has been transformed to a new usable and secure space including new plantings, a layer of mulch, a new cover for the hoop house, a fence, and a shelter, which can be used for a farmers’ market and a work space.
During this time, we also continued our work at Anthony’s Garden, just east of the Gale Academy of Math and Science. Additionally, we established a tool donation drive. Thanks to Vicki Apatoff and to church members who donated new and gently used items. We are grateful to the following people who worked with us the past months: Katie Nahrwold (green co-chair), King Poor (green co-chair), Gail Pascus, Vicki Apatoff, Kathryn Freemond, Alan Freemond, Jack Graham, Libby Graham, Melanie Earle, J.P. Ruck, Ryan Wortel, Ann Wortel. As our partnership with AJH continues, we look forward to continuing to support this amazing organization and their mission to fight poverty and hunger in the community.
