Scripture
This is what the Lord Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. — Zechariah 7:9
Wisdom
But there are times I think, we we want to pray to cover up our own fear, because there is an awkward silence, and we don’t know what to say. And there are times our prayer of assurance might silence someone else’s lament, because we don’t want to hear it. —Diane Roth, July 20, 2012, Christian Century, “Shall we have a prayer?”
Prayer
Hold our fear, Lord Almighty. Hold our fear, so that we can hold the laments of this life, the laments of our neighbors and friends, the laments of the world. Amen. —The Reverend Dr. Katie Snipes Lancaster
