Scripture
‘I hate, I despise your religious festivals;’ says the Lord,
‘your assemblies are a stench to me.
Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings,
I will not accept them.
Though you bring choice fellowship offerings,
I will have no regard for them.
Away with the noise of your songs!
I will not listen to the music of your harps.
But let justice roll on like a river,
righteousness like a never-failing stream!’
—Amos 5:21–24

Wisdom
If sending out thoughts and prayers has become shorthand for inaction, let’s instead gather up our thoughts and our prayers and turn with them toward others. Let’s stay turned until their concern becomes our own and our encounter with God’s vast creative energy sets us free to change. —Stephanie Paulsell November 7, 2017 Christian Century, “Can we reclaim ‘thoughts and prayers?'”

Prayer
Turn with us toward one another, O God of justice. Let your never-failing stream of creative energy free us to act for the sake of justice and mercy. Amen. —The Reverend Dr. Katie Snipes Lancaster
