Scripture
God’s Spirit blows wherever it wishes. You hear its sound, but you don’t know where it comes from or where it is going. It’s the same with everyone who is born of the Spirit.  —John 3:8

Wisdom
The Bible puts the Spirit into play as all-pervasive primordial Breath wafting over and through and as all-pervasive primordial rhythm of the cry of pain—whether in labor in the womb of a woman or in agony under the breath of a slave. The Good News places the escaping sigh on the livid lip of lacerated messiah as the ultimate question, flung skyward: Why?! Biblically, there is license to located and liberate Spirit in all kinds of comportments in every out-of-the-way place of decay or ecstasy. Spirit is what the tradition lisps and groans, chortles and quacks after, pretends to domesticate in doctrine and lassos in catechetical lesson only to have the Flighty-Feral-Fecundity slip the noose again and again. —Jim Perkinson, The Jazz of the Spirit: A Poetic Perspective

Prayer
Be primordial breath, be liberated spirit, be the undomesticated flight of the sacred in and through us, Amen. —The Reverend Dr. Katie Snipes Lancaster
