Scripture
But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these  —Luke 18:16

Wisdom
When we look to children, when we know them well enough and care for them deeply enough to welcome them, then we get the chance to know some things about God and to come to know God differently than might otherwise occur. If welcoming a child is a way to welcome God, then perhaps there is something about God that is as messy, playful, noisy, active, spontaneous, restless, and unpredictable as that which one encounters in welcoming a child. Maybe by learning to truly welcome even the most restless of children, for instance, I thereby learn to welcome God’s restlessness as an aspect of God’s being that I might otherwise not recognize or care to encounter.  —Joyce Ann Mercer, Welcoming Children: A Practical Theology of Childhood

Prayer
O messy, playful, noisy, active, spontaneous, restless, unpredictable spirit: guide us in your childlike ways, and lead us toward true belonging.  Amen. —The Reverend Dr. Katie Snipes Lancaster
