Daily Prayer 365

Day 23
Friday, September 23, 2022

Those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
—Isaiah 40:31

Hope has holes
in its pockets.
It leaves little
crumb trails
so that we,
when anxious,
can follow it.
Hope’s secret:
it doesn’t know
the destination—
it knows only
that all roads
begin with one
foot in front
of the other.

—Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer’s poem Hope

O strength of eagle wing, we seek you. Leave us a trail of breadcrumbs toward today’s ration of hope, so that even if we know not the destination, we might find our way, step by step. Amen. —The Reverend Dr. Katie Snipes Lancaster
