Scripture
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. —Proverbs 27:1

Wisdom
I think our relation with the Divine is a love affair. It’s a passionate love affair. It’s also as tumultuous as any affair that we have in the world with somebody we care about a lot. So it’s not all sweetness and light and probably shouldn’t be because the sufferings and the demons are often what instructs us much more than the calm, radiant moments.

…Spirituality is the story of our passionate affair with what is deepest inside us and with the candle that’s always flickering inside us and sometimes almost seems to go out and sometimes blazes. And religion is the community, the framework, the tradition, all the other people into which we bring what we find in solitude.  —Pico Iyer, The Urgency of Slowing Down, from On Being with Krista Tippett

Prayer
Let the blaze of divine love sweeten this day. Let the flickering light of your spirit instruct me in the way of inmost calm. Let me slow down toward an unrushed yet urgent peace. Let me linger in the fullness of this day. Amen. —The Reverend Dr. Katie Snipes Lancaster
