Scripture
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. —1 John 4:18

Wisdom
Pablo Neruda [tells the childhood] story of exchanging toys with an unseen child through the fence of his childhood home providing a glimpse of the kind of relationship that must—and can—exist between [us]. ‘Maybe,’ he says, ‘this small and mysterious exchange of gifts remained inside me also, deep and indestructible, giving my poetry light.’ Neruda continues musing, ‘To feel the love of people whom we love is a fire that feeds our life. But to feel the affection that comes from those whom we do not know, from those unknown to us, who are watching over our sleep and solitude, over our dangers and weaknesses, that is something still greater and more beautiful because it widens out the boundaries of our being and unites all living things.’  —Jeff Gundy on Pablo Neruda in his book Songs from an Empty Cage: Poetry, Mystery, Anabaptism, and Peace

Prayer
Place us in side the deep light of community, God of all living things, feeding the fire of love. Amen. —The Reverend Dr. Katie Snipes Lancaster
