Thirty years ago, during our Kenilworth Union Church Centennial year celebration, four families came together and funded a Centennial Scholar Program to serve under resourced/urban areas in Chicago. The program was to provide financial assistance for seminary students for their final two years of seminary who planned to pursue jobs in under resourced/urban ministry, and then to provide a continuing two-year payment after graduation subsidizing their income as they served these under resourced areas. Kenilworth Union’s goal was to encourage ministry for communities in need, and to broaden the Church’s impact on ministry. Today our program is still supporting this important work and has funded well over 50 scholarships.

We currently have four seminary scholars at various Chicago area seminaries. Two scholars just completed the supplemental income phase of the program where they worked in various under resourced ministries in Chicago.

We would like to invite you at attend an Adult Education Program that is sponsored by our Centennial Scholarship Committee on Monday, April 25 at 7 p.m. in the Culbertson Room. We will feature two of our scholars, Nelson Sinchi a graduate of Catholic Theological Union now working in a hospital chaplain training program, and Reverend Damon Smith a graduate of McCormick Theological Seminary now working as Community Outreach Director for CHANGE Illinois. They will report on their current ministry work and be available for questions. Please join us for this very informative and inspirational program.

We continue to extend our gratitude to the four families that made this program possible: Ellwood and Jane Peterson, Doug and Judy Petrie, Phil and Mary Schaff, and Carl and Barbara Stanley.

And we would also like to thank those that have served on this committee over the past 30 years, and those who currently serve who are listed below:

Diane Hart, Chair
