Scripture
He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. Then he called his disciples and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury.”
Mark 12:41–43
A Look at Joy
[The Joy of Generosity]
Rev. Kaji Dousa, “Wild Gifts (After Mary Oliver)”
You do not have to give perfectly.
You do not have to wrack your mind
Your bank account
Your possibilities
And dry them up in the desert air.
You have your despair, as do I.
They are linked
They are reparable
If we tell from the love place
And give from them, too
Imperfectly
Imaginatively
Prayerfully
True.
Your gifts have a place
“In the family of things.”
Thank you, Mary, for magnifying this.
Prayer
O God, may our giving be animated by love for you and for each other. May we give with gratitude and without judgment. Amen.
