Questions: Our faith is most dynamic I think, when we are willing to sit with the questions. Sometimes the questions can be overwhelming. Sometimes we don’t know the answers. Sometimes not-knowing is hard (we are I suppose, a culture of evidenced-based, well-researched knowing of everything). Sometimes we just want to google our question and get on with it (eek! always proceed with caution when googling spiritual questions).

There are no quick or easy answers to the spiritual life. One of the biggest gifts on my spiritual journey has been companions who are willing to sit with me in my questions and not offer answers, but instead just be present. Maybe they would ask my question back to me, giving me a chance to ruminate. Maybe they would say, “I’ve wondered that too.” Maybe they would just offer a cup of tea and a comfy place to be present amid the pondering.

What faith-questions do you carry around with you? What questions remain unanswered? What questions are still bubbling up in a life-giving way? Who holds your questions with you? What do you do with all your questions?

Praying the Alphabet:
O Quivering Spirit,
Our questions queue up, qualitative,
every quagmire a quest
to qualify and quantify the divine.
We get queasy when others quell our queries
offering quick answers or quirky quotations.
We need questions, not quips.
Do not quash our curiosities,
or quarantine our qualms,
but instead set your quiet spirit in our midst
and quench our thirst for your nearness.
