This Fall’s Adult Education series offers tremendous breadth, covering our Christian faith, public service programs, and other opportunities for enrichment.  I’d like to offer a quick preview.

Our programs begin in September with:

• Rabbi Evan Moffic, a frequent and popular speaker at Kenilworth Union, who will return to discuss his latest book, The Happiness Prayer, a 2,000 year old text that still gives meaning today (Thur. 9/14)
• Rev. Forrest will kick off a 7-week Wednesday morning Bible study on the Apostle Paul’s epic Letter to the Romans, with an early-riser option at 6:45 a.m. and a second at 9:15 a.m. (Beginning Wed. 9/20)
• The women’s Fall Bible Study will review the Priscilla Schiller book Discerning the Voice of God (Beginning Wed. 9/20)
• 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. Rev. Evertsberg will lead a 5-week series that will include Candace Kohli, a Martin Luther scholar from Northwestern University; other programs on the history of Reformation thought; and a Bach recital from Susan Klotzbach. (Beginning Mon. 9/25)

Then in October…

• Veteran radio reporter Linda Lutton from WBEZ will speak on the challenges facing youths, families, and public schools in the city of Chicago (Tue. 10/10)
• Kenilworth Union returns to the Lyric Opera of Chicago. A group outing to see Orpheus and Eurydice is planned for Sun. 10/15.  To help opera-goers prepare, John and Kathy Piepgras will host a presentation on the opera with an overview and musical excerpts (Sun. 9/24).
• A local physician, Robert Magrisso, will speak on the artistic inspiration he derived from a near-death experience (Tue. 10/24)

In November…

• Amy-Jill Levine, the widely known and extensively published scholar from Vanderbilt Divinity School, will speak at Sukkat Shalom on the topic How Jews and Christians Read Scripture Differently, a program Kenilworth Union is co-sponsoring with Sukkat Shalom. (Sun. 11/12)

And finally…

• We will continue with Faith and Leadership, the successful series led by Rev. Forrest, where business leaders speak on how faith and ethics center their daily lives. More news to come shortly.

We are so grateful to Rev. Evertsberg and Rev. Forrest for the gifts they bring to us through these programs that inform us, educate us, and help us draw closer to Christ.  I’m looking forward to seeing you this fall.
