God is doing a new thing. That’s what it says in the book of Isaiah chapter 43, at least, hundreds of years before Jesus. God is doing a new thing.
Today, that new thing is marked by COVID-19 in ways we would never have imagined just months ago. Some of us carry the burden of illness. Some of us grieve. Some of us participate in essential services. Some of us stay at home day after day.
In Children’s Ministry, Sunday School meets online and has become truly an all-ages family ministry: dogs and cats included. In Youth Ministry, youth group games and holy conversation have become limited by the newly-defined zoom-fatigue. For young people of all ages, connection in faith community has become critical.
This year for Children’s Day and Youth Sunday, our third graders have recorded themselves reciting their bible passages from home, and the 2020 High School Seniors have recorded their prayers and sermons from home. Worship is “from our home to yours.” Worship is “home grown.”
May God bless your home, as you welcome the leadership of our children and youth for worship this Sunday. There will be scripture, prayer, music and beautiful reflections on what it is like to be nurtured in faith at Kenilworth Union Church. It is a service of gratitude, and it exemplifies the new thing that God is doing in our midst.
