You can hear Alison Krauss & Union Station sing their song “A Living Prayer” but equally stunning is the version Lisa Bond uploaded for worship on June 7, 2020 when our own musicians sought to express the beauty of what it means to find God “on the rugged road through barren lands.” If words were enough to get us through hard times, this text would be that balm: “The way is dark, the road is steep” but God becomes “my eyes to see, strength to climb, grief to bear.” But words are never enough, so the melody takes us the rest of the way, possibly with an embarrassment of tears if we’re open to it.
