We Are Not Alone, by Pepper Choplin

It’s not every day that a creative conductor and composer like Pepper Choplin comes along. He has published over 300 anthems, and over 100 groups have commissioned him to write original works for them (and he’s a humorist? with a book called Might as well laugh than cry). What I love about this piece is how it approaches the existential loneliness of our postmodern lives with open eyes. He is not afraid to look at our fear of abandonment, and with word and melody bring us into the presence of God with those sustaining words “We are not alone.”

The words take on fresh meaning as you watch our youth choir sing if you think about what this past year has been for our young adults. To state the obvious, it has meant online school, abbreviated milestones, constant shifting change and the isolation of shelter-in-place that leads us to need the song’s message of hope evermore.

Blessing
O God within and beyond, when winter chill gathers round, remind us eternally: we are never alone, you are with us. Amen.

Oct 25 We Are Not Alone (KUC Youth Choir virtual choir)

We are not alone, we are not alone.
We are not alone: God is with us.
We are never alone, for God is with us.
We, we are never alone, for God is with us.
Now, through all our days, always.
Forever and ever: we are never alone.
And God will make us strong, for God is with us.
We will press on, for God is with us.
Now, through all our days, always.
Forever and ever, we are never alone.
Our God is with us now.
