The Spirituality of Sewage:
The State of Our Water Stewardship

Cameron Davis, J.D.

Cam will complement our “The Elemental Spirits” sermon series with an Adult Education presentation on Monday, February 3 at 7 p.m. in the Culbertson Room. He will also do a dialogue sermon with Bill Evertsberg on Sunday, February 16.

Cam is a public interest Clean Water Act attorney and in 2018 was elected commissioner at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) for a two-year term, in what was one of the most unusual races in Illinois history.

From 2009 until 2017, he was President Obama’s Great Lakes point person, coordinating the work of 11 federal departments and serving as the Administration’s liaison to Capitol Hill in investing more than $2 billion under the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

Cam has dedicated his entire career to the public’s interest in water, having served as a litigating attorney for the National Wildlife Federation, professor at the University of Michigan Law School, and President & CEO of the Chicago-based Alliance for the Great Lakes. He and his spouse, Dr. Katelyn Varhely, have two children, who Cam takes swimming in Lake Michigan near their home in Evanston, but only when it’s warm enough.
